If you are using Playlist File Mode exclusively it's pretty simple:

All of your database builds can be done in Modes 1 and 2.

• Use Mode 1 for your very first build on a new folder.

• Use Mode 2 for each build on that same folder thereafter (instead of Mode 1) because it's faster.

If you are using SQL Mode all of your database builds need to be done in Modes 3, 4, and 5.

Use Mode 3 when:

You are running your very first build ever.

or

You are building a folder from Scratch and you deliberately want to clear out the StarterHistory Table because:

a. You just installed a program update that requires rebuilding from scratch.

or

b. You just reworked your SQL Mode F-Factor Setup and want to repopulate the StarterHistory Table so that it contains data based on your new SQL Mode F-Factor Setup.

Use Mode 4 when:

You are running your very first build on a new folder and you have existing data from other folders in your StarterHistory Table that you want to keep.

Mode 4 creates a new text file on the target folder, but because it does not clear the StarterHistory Table prior to running the build, existing data in the table is left intact - and the Mode 4 build causes new data from the current folder to be appended (added) to your StarterHistory Table.

An example scenario of when to use Mode 4 is:

You have existing data in the StarterHistory Table that you want to keep, you are using a monthly or quarterly folder structure, the calendar has recently rolled over to a new month, and you are about to run your first build on a new target folder for the new calendar time period.

Use Mode 5 when:

a. You have previously run a Mode 4 build on a folder and you have added new data and results files to that folder since running that initial Mode 4 build.

or

b. You have previously run a Mode 4 build on a folder followed by one or more Mode 5 builds on that folder - and you have added new data and results files to that folder since running your last Mode 5 build.
